Join Our Mission as a Resource Family.

It’s life. It’s all so normal. And yet, at Big Oak Ranch, it’s also extraordinary.

“Resource Parenting has made me a much better wife and mother, and a better teacher.”

Ann Bettis, Resource Parent & Middle School Teacher

A life-changing volunteer role

Resource parents are a critical part of our ministry — supporting our houseparents and offering our children extended family.

Like any family, the families of Big Oak Ranch are bustling with activity. Our children are involved in pursuits that maximize their potential — school, sports, music lessons, and more. They’re engaged with on-Ranch activities like Big Oak Cattle and work jobs in the community. They’re active in church and enjoy memorable family vacations. In everything they do, our houseparents are always present, investing in their children’s future through consistent love and encouragement.

They’re able to do this with the support of volunteer Resource Parents.

Each month, our houseparents get one weekend away — Friday through Sunday evening — to rest and restore so they can best serve our children.

During the weekend, we pair each child with a Resource Family which serves as an extended family for our children. The relationships built and enjoyed through this valuable part of our mission are life-changing for our children and our resource families alike.

“Resource weekends provide a place where my girls can just go to the ballpark, go to the movies, or out to eat. It’s surrounding our kids so that they have a village.”

Suzanne Miller, Housemom at Big Oak Girls’ Ranch

Houseparenting

Because we believe parenting at Big Oak Ranch is a calling, our houseparents carry out that role full-time and dedicate their lives to helping children heal from past hurts and discover purpose for the future.
